Meet : Geneva Mello

At The BRICK, we are thrilled to showcase the extraordinary work of Geneva Mello, an artist who transforms forgotten moments into evocative stories through paint and charcoal. No longer mere figures frozen in time, the subjects of Mello's pieces have new stories to tell.

Using vintage, discarded photographs—unearthed from antique store bargain bins, family albums, and local history archives— Mello breathes new life into these forgotten images. Through a painterly style that blends drawing and paint media, the artist creates dreamlike scenes filled with ambiguity. Marks, brushstrokes, and drips form veils over the original figures, some concealed, some revealed, much like a memory that is both vivid and elusive.

What makes Mello's work so compelling is the open narrative, inviting each viewer to construct their own interpretation of the story behind the image. It’s a voyeuristic glimpse into a past that feels familiar yet might never have occurred. By tapping into a collective memory, Mello explores how we piece together stories of our past and ourselves, blending reality with imagination.

This exploration of history, nostalgia, and identity resonates with all of us, making Mello's work a perfect fit for The BRICK. We welcome you to come check out her work.

Meet : JELBERT KARAMI

We are thrilled to feature the piognant and deeply personal works of Jelbert Karami, a celebrated artist originally from Tehran, Iran. Karami’s passion for painting was ignited at just 14 years old, inspired by the masterpieces of Iranian poet and painter Sohrab Sepehri, which he first encountered at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. By the age of 20, Karami had fully committed to a life of art, mastering painting, drawing, and art history under the guidance of Tehran’s most respected artists.

His journey, however, has been marked by both creative triumph and the challenges of censorship in his homeland. Despite these obstacles, Karami’s reputation flourished through numerous solo and group exhibitions across Tehran, where his work stood as a testament to his resilience and profound artistic vision.

In 2015, Karami relocated to Vienna, and later, in 2016, to the United States, where he continues to thrive as an artist. His powerful pieces reflect his rich cultural heritage and explore universal themes such as spirituality, human rights, and the enduring resilience of the human spirit. His acclaimed "Tree of Life" collection, with its fragmented and crumbling trees, echoes the struggles and perseverance of the human condition, an unintentional yet deeply poignant symbol of his personal and collective history.

Karami’s work is a window into the soul of a man shaped by his Iranian roots, his migration story, and his steadfast belief in the transformative power of art. His pieces invite viewers into a dialogue about humanity, cultural identity, and the light that art brings to even the darkest of times.

Experience Jelbert Karami’s remarkable journey and explore the beauty of his collections at The BRICK, where his artistry speaks to the complexities of the human experience, and the universal search for hope and belonging.

Meet : MORGAN ANDRE

We are thrilled to feature Morgan Andre, a local artist born and raised in Turlock, California, at The BRICK. Morgan earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a minor in Art History from the University of the Pacific in 2014. Her impressive journey has taken her from working as a gallery assistant at the John Natsoulas Art Gallery in Davis to teaching art at Peter Johansen High School in Modesto, where she continues to inspire the next generation of artists.

As an Abstract Expressionist, Morgan explores the complexities of the human condition through acrylics, heavy textures, watercolors, and mixed media. Her fascination with dichotomies and the challenges of human navigation is evident in her work, which invites viewers to engage intellectually, emotionally, and physically. At The BRICK, we are proud to showcase Morgan’s art, which fosters profound self-reflection and emotional experiences for all who view it.
